Cashmere Cat and KAYTRANADA gave an incredible performance at the Ogden Theatre in Denver, CO this past Saturday despite having no visuals due to technical problems. As unfortunate as it was to miss Cashmere Cat’s trippy visuals and KAYTRANADA’s 90s inspired scenes, it was a night that really was all about the music.
Cashmere Cat (real name Magnus August Høiberg) dropped his classic sexy grooves along with the song “Wolves” that he produced for Kanye West’s “The Life of Pablo”. Høiberg was being his typical goofy self, changing the pace between heavy hip-hops beats and smooth baby-makin’ jams. Cashmere has an unusual intimacy live and everyone, from the front row to the furthest back barstools, can somehow feel like they’re the one that Cashmere is making cat gestures at.

KAYTRANADA (Louis Kevin Celestin) is one of my personal favorite DJs of the year (and decade and my lifetime) played an incredible seamless set. The Haitian-Canadian DJ had everyone, and I mean everyone, shuffling hard from start to finish. Predictably, the whole venue went wild for songs like “GLOWED UP” feat. Anderson Paak and “GOT IT GOOD” feat. Craig David. I’d like to compare KAYTRANADA to Rick Wade (who I recently saw at 1010 Workshop in Denver) for his commitment to the music and his strong jazz influence. Celestin spoke just twice to thank us for coming out and apologize for the lack of visuals. Head bobbing and beats banging, KAYTRANADA gave such a performance that the music standing alone was more powerful and genuine than what many artists provide now.
Big ups to two great artists for a real show despite technical problems.
The generous Trippy Turtle puts us in the Christmas spirit by combining the love of giving, with the dirtiness and sexiness that is Jersey Club. “Christmas in Jersey” tells a story of how people celebrate December 25th in Dirty Jerz, the right way. The sample of Justin Timberlake’s “Dick in a Box” is repeated with the signature beat. Everything is just pure sexy. This song definitely falls up there with the classics. So hang up the mistletoe, blast this song, and seduce your lover with this free release.

Following our other article about all the available “CoCo” remixes, Trippy Turtle decided to play ball as well with a new Jersey cut released just moments ago. The track is called “FoFo” as per the FoFoFadi Family, an organization consisting of Jersey Club producers who like to incorporate alliteration and animals in their aliases. This song features that awesome “I’m in love with the CoCo” sample expcept “CoCo” is changed to “FoFo” through magic and production engineering. All in all its a pretty solid Jersey Club song that reflects the style of Trippy Turtle that I have come to really enjoy. Just sexy as fuck.

Mat Zo was never an artist to stick to one genre. With insane collaborations such as kill the zo and his ability to play festival crowds such as this set at Ultra Miami 2014, Mat Zo is absolutely a genre-bender. Mat Zo has been releasing mixes on his soundcloud (click here to listen to all of them) – these mixes have generally been widely varying and creative. His most recent mix, “Mat Zo Mix 022”, goes through several amazing songs from a relatively wide variety of genres, including trap and future house. With songs like “Light Years Away” by Oliver and trap from the likes of Milo and Otis, Alex Young, and Cashmere Cat, this mix is not for the feint of genre.

Manila Killa is an artist along the lines of Kygo, Cashmere Cat, or Ta-ku. Of late, Manila Killa has been releasing jersey club and tropical house tracks. His remix of Blue Jeans by Lana Del Rey is fantastic. It’s also worth checking out his most recent track, All I Want (Manila Killa remix), which is tagged as #FutureTropicalHouse. I’m not sure where Manila Killa originates, but his Facebook description says “Representing Manila, Philippines & Washington, DC”, so I must assume he comes out of one of these places. A week ago Manila Killa released the first mix in a mix series to promote wavo.me, a music-sharing website. This mix features the best of Manila plus a load of jersey club, tropical, and trap-style music.

After this song popped up on my soundcloud via Mr. Carmack, I looked into Djemba Djemba a bit and was impressed. This producer has a nice variety of music including a nightcore remix which is pretty dope. Djemba Djemba is also set to play at RL Grime presents VOID at HARD Day of the Dead alongside Cashmere Cat, Branchez, and of course, RL Grime. His most recent song, a festival edit of Green Garden by Laura Mvula. This is the original song, which differs greatly from the remix.
