Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania’s Headphone Activist is truly in a genre of his own. His cloud rap style is best exemplified through his song North End Nightlife, featured on his free E.P., The Classic’s. This song in particular takes you on an intriguing, brow raising journey of one of the all time classics.

Check it out:

He remixes Bach’s Cello suite No.1 Prelude in G – Major with his unique slow, euphoric melodies and 808’s. The addition of a resonating bass line takes the song to another level. In all, the upper, wavy vibes are a perfect compliment to Bach’s cello. Now does this make classical music cool? Maybe. I grew up listening to classical music so I understand that it can be somewhat of an acquired taste and definitely requires the appropriate setting. But Headphone Activist perfectly blends these two, what could not be more opposite, genres to create a new sound and give a slow song effect to satisfy our emotional cravings, appropriate for any time of day.

Slow music has a tendency to touch us in a way that makes us feel like everything is going to be alright, it makes us pause, take a deep breathe, and enjoy the moment. And that, as EDM fans, is what we live for. That one moment of peak sensation and emotional clarity where everybody and everything in the universe is smiling right back at you. Headphone Activist takes advantage of this and gives us what we so intuitively desire. So what classical remix can we expect next, Beethoven’s 5th? We’ll just have to wait and see. For now enjoy his most recent release, a remix of Matstubs’ Timekeeper and according to his Facebook page, look out for “something super special and full of vibes to kick off the new year” coming really, really soon!
