Dreamy, ambient vibes were flowing at Royale last night during Tycho’s show in Boston, featuring his newest album –  Awake. Accompanying him on set were 3 instrumentalists: bassist, electric guitarist and a drummer. As a whole, this talented group struck the perfect balance of harmony with uplifting beats.

Tycho simultaneously played two synths to create the ethereal melody, while the drummer produced solid beats that had people moving around and dancing in the crowd. Both the bass and electric guitarists also added richness to the chorus and completed the ensemble. At certain points the drummer would create an echoing effect with his high hat symbols that sounded like a serpent hissing in a distant dream.

In addition to the amazing music, the visuals were perfectly chosen and added to the overall mood of the show. Unique kaleidoscopic style pictures along with colorful geometric patterns contributed to the trippy, spiritual feeling of the music. When he closed with A Walk, slow motion water particles flowed throughout the screen, and seemed to flow in sync with the music, creating a breathtaking effect. Slow crashing waves also appeared at one point, which perfectly matched the fluid, harmonic quality of the songs played.

This concert was undoubtedly a magical experience. The entire audience seemed to be mesmerized by the atmospheric sound flooding the room. As this celestial music played, a heavenly trance was placed over all spectators as they absorbed the beautiful, airy sounds being created .
