On Saturday night, Brighton Music Hall was beyond turnt up thanks to Minnesota’s Mind Machine Tour featuring artists G Jones and Jackal. Despite the small venue size, the room was packed with bass music enthusiasts who were ready to go dumb the second G Jones came on the mic. The Santa Cruz California native had a dope, unique mix consisting of entirely his own heavy songs.

After a limited 35 minute set due to venue scheduling issues, Jackal threw down the most heat trap set I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to. The similarly shortened slot felt a lot like a ‘best-of’ trap and bass music sampler, featuring only the wettest of slaps including his own brand new monstrous release, Chinchilla. Artists tend to have a unique flair to their mixes, and it’s sick that there are still young producers like Jackal who mainly spin turn up music.

Minnesota closed out the night with an incredibly dynamic performance based on his upliftingly heavy signature sound. The moving sub bass synced with fantastically epic synths were a lightweight emotional throwback to the good ol’ days of melodic, complex dubstep. Featuring songs old and new alike, the bass legend smoothly wove in and out of different vibes, playing songs by some of my favorite artist from various genres like Slumberjack’s Touched remix, and hits by Alison Wonderland and Ganz, not to mention neatly dropping in his own masterful songs. As energy in the crowd dimmed in the wee hours of the morning, Minnesota dropped the career-changing collaboration with Seven Lions, Fevers ft. Mimi Page which was received with open arms and intense dancing.
